Keeping your cigars fresh and preventing damage to the delicate wrappers are the two goals with carrying cases. Cigars will stay fresh without humidification for several hours if not exposed to a lot of heat so a leather case is great for say golfing. But for trips you'll need some way of keeping them moist.
